“Rog and Amanda have made
my
first recording experience a truly
enjoyable
and stress free one! The
production on my album is awesome
and I've had heaps of comments
on the quality
and professionalism.
I couldnt
have done this without you guys.
Thank you so much!!!” Polly Medlen
"The Valley Studio presents a relaxed
and professional atmosphere that allows
for the best musical result. Roger is
a very experienced writer and musician
who made me feel most welcome
in
his home and studio. Roger also
has
the ability to capture an
artists own
unique style and sound.
The support
in the background
from Amanda
makes for a most
enjoyable recording experience. Highly recommended!" Anita Ree
"It was a wonderful experience
recording in the tranquil surrounds
of the Valley Studios with Roger and
his team. The atmosphere was perfect
for the creativity needed when writing and recording songs. Thanks Rog for all
your inspiration and guidance for
our last three albums No Matter What,
Your Requests and Kick It.
It
was
a lot of fun." Craig and Roz Giles
“It was such a fun time at Rog's. I got
so many songwriting tips, and we went to
see the Dixie Chicks in Sydney while
I
was down. Rog and Ben were
great
company (although they love to
tease!)
and we had heaps
of
laughs.” Sarah McMonagle
The Valley Studio was established by Roger Corbett (The Bushwackers) ten years ago to combine first class recording with the huge wealth of songwriting, musical and recording expertise he’d built up over the years.
I wanted to set up a place where artists can be creative and relaxed, and still end up with cost effective albums that were a joy to record and promote. I kept hearing stories of massive costs and uncaring treatment, and vowed that would never happen to my artists at The Valley Studio.
Today my principles are simple. I choose;
to work with people I like whether they're a musician, songwriter or artist;
to work at the absolute highest level available;
to use the very best musicians available in the country;
to treat every person who comes to The Studio to as a valued friend;
to make the achievement of tangible results my goal;
to create first class projects at reasonable budgets.
The Valley Studio’s is located in Sydney’s Blue Mountians, approximately 90 minutes drive from the city centre. We provide artist accommodation if you need it, at a far lower cost than an impersonal motel, and a stress free environment designed to get the best out of your creative talent.
When I was recording the 11 albums I’ve made with my band, the legendary ‘Bushwackers’ in the 80's and 90's, it always made me wonder about the recording process. Why was the studio always so dark? Why wasn’t parking easy? Why did the equipment always break down? Why’d everything take so long? Why were the engineers so addicted to working late into the night? Why were they always so grumpy and unhelpful? Why didn’t I ever feel like I was cool enough for them? Why was the studio metre running up a big bill all the time?
Well, I vowed that when I had my own studio I would create a warm and inviting recording facility that was first class but had a homely feel about it. Where the work could go from ‘kitchen table’ creativity to ‘state-of-the-art’ recording. A place where the artist felt comfortable about trying new things and creating a project that was truly ‘them’.
I believe I’ve achieved a lot of those outcomes with The Valley Studio. You see, the really scarce resource in the music industry is good thinking, and even though we work on small budgets compared to other studios, we are producing first class results. I choose to build integrity into every stage of the recording process from the songwriting through to mastering.
I don’t do it all alone though, I have a great team of people who share my ideals. From the ‘A team’ musicians I use, to the other service providers, I only use professionals who share my commitment to first class quality at a reasonable cost.
My musicians have included Stuie French, Michel Rose, Peter Drummond, Brad Bergen, Mitch Farmer, Ian Lees, Mick Albeck, Duncan Toombs, Sam Hawkesley, Martin Louis, Glen Hannah, Hugh Curtis, Camille Te Nahu, Dobe Newton, Karen O’Shea, Lynne Bowtell, Nicki Gillis, Ben Corbett and myself. We’re always using the best new musicians and our old favourite friends to get the sounds we need.
The bottom line is: I believe in you. I know you’ve worked hard to get to where you are, you're ready to commit to a project and try your luck in the wider world of the music industry. It will take more work and commitment, but we’re always here to help you, with Door2Door, Amanda O’Bryan Publicity and The Valley Store. We’re interested in success and results.
I’m a long time member of the Bushwackers Band and am privileged to have worked alongside some of the finest musicians in the country; Tommy Emmanuel, Stephen Houseden, Louis McManus, Peter Drummond and Dobe Newton to name a few; as well as all the great musicians I work with here at the Valley. I’ve been songwriting since I was a teenager and have written countless songs, many of which have appeared on albums for The Bushwackers and other Valley Artists. I’ve won lots of awards and been nominated for a lot more than I’ve won.
I look forward to working with you on your next project.
