Roger Corbett is getting into the winter festival spirit and teaching both the junior and senior student groups at the CMAA Academy of Country Music. Although not loving the cold weather much, Roger said the academy was crawling with hot talent. "The place is loaded with fantastic talent and as usual, the students are a mixed bag, but there is some very good talent," he said.
The mutli-talented songwriter, producer and many other things is teaching the students about songwriting.

"We feed them tonnes of information and show them that this is a professional industry," he said. "I also teach them that if you want to get anywhere, you have to pull your finger out and take notes, and you have to dig in and know what you're doing because you just can't fake it."

Roger said fellow teacher and renowned artist Ted Egan had been giving the students a great perspective on Australian history and Australian music, so the students could develop a bigger perspective than just being Nashville-centric.
"Australian music is something I'm also very passionate about," he said.

" Everyone wants to go to Nashville but we want the students to see they have plenty of their own artists. I also firmly believe Australians like to hear our own culture in our own language in music."

Roger, a driving force of The Bushwackers, said Australian country music needed to see how to build their careers here by making friends, knowing their stuff and just generally by "being good".

Roger Corbett Sings The Praise Of Indie Artist

Posted 02/06/2010... The Valley Studio with record producer Roger Corbett at the helm is singing the praises of his artists. Committed to taking artists to the next level of their country music career, Roger is quietly proud of all the artists who have recorded albums at The Valley Studio.

In the spotlight are four who are successfully forging careers. Gaining places on the Australian Country Tracks Top 30 Airplay Chart this week are family band The Lees who continue their outstanding run with It Ain’t Me Babe from the album Welcome Road at number 4. Country favourite Tracy Coster is making her way toward the top with Not Forty from the album Moving On at number 19. Newcomer Natalie Brandt has entered the chart for the first time with a single from her debut self titled Ep with the track , The End Of The World and New Zealand’s duo sensation The Heartleys have entered the charts at number 29 with Leaving Home from their self titled album.

‘This is the age of independence’ says Roger. ‘Everything we do at the Valley is designed to support independent artists take their career to the next level’. It’s a philosophy that has seen the studio deliver consistent results with an ‘A Team’ of Australian songwriters, musicians and industry professionals for over 10 years, more than 60 albums, Golden Guitar wins and nominations.

An imminent re-launch of The Valley Studio website, new branding and an extended list of services is designed to propel artists on the roadmap of their country music careers.
